That was my original system, and it didn't work well. The problem is that it is +- stacksize per warehouse, which means that you end up with a triangle shaped distribution, with 1000 in the source, 900 in its neighbor, 800 in its neighbor, etc, meaning that 5500 items will only reach 10 warehouses (assuming you input on one end). My system has it reach 55 instead. I recommend to get your mods from the forums (Factorio Forums - Mods [forums.factorio.com]), most of them are at their current version. The last big change in the modding interface was with 0.12.11 (October 2015), so a mod that is working with 0.12.11 and higher will probably also be working in the current version.

Equipment to upgrade warehouse capacity is probably somewhat more possible (assuming we can add an equipment grid to a chest entity), but it would still be a big change. After Factorio 0.17 releases I am planning to rebalance the warehouse capacities, and I'll keep the idea of warehouse upgrades in mind.
